There appears to be significant interest in current Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone — and on an international level at that. According to Serbia head basketball coach Igor Kokoskov, it remains possible that Malone joins the national team’s coaching staff at some point in the future.

However, no agreement between the two sides has come to light as it stands today. Though that doesn't mean one won't arise down the road.

“What I can say is that from our side, we did everything to be professional and transparent,” Kokoskov recently said during a press conference just ahead of the EuroBasket qualifier games between Serbia, Finland and Georgia, via Eurohoops. “When that idea came up, we were there to welcome him. After my appointment, I got a call with his [Malone’s] congratulations and his proposal to join us. That was one very nice [form of] congratulations to me. If not recognition.”

Of course, Malone has coached Serbia's biggest star in Denver since back in 2015 as Nuggets center Nikola Jokic just participated in this year's NBA All-Star Weekend.

“The desire to cooperate still exits,” Kokoskov added, via Eurohoops. “He’s a prominent NBA coach. If he’s willing to be here, that’s fine. The team won’t be based on Igor or Mike Malone but on the players and, most importantly, on them being here.”

Not only is Malone one of the best coaches in the league. He also has one of the best players in Jokic, who could lead the Nuggets to a pretty deep run through the playoffs this time around.
