Mayfield received an overall grade of 84.5 after having an impressive season as he led the Cleveland Browns to seven wins. Mayfield led a list that included Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb, and Calvin Ridley, just to name a few.
The Browns got out to a slow start to the season, but Mayfield really seemed to improve after Hue Jackson was let go. The Browns won five of the last eight games and almost beat the Baltimore Ravens in the last game of the year to keep them out of the playoffs.
Browns general manager John Dorsey knows there are some things Mayfield needs to improve on, but the quarterback also did a lot of impressive things during his rookie year:
“He’s still a rookie,” general manager John Dorsey said the day after the season, per ESPN. “There’s still a lot of nuances of the National Football League. He threw three interceptions (against Baltimore). He can still work on those little things, understanding certain things, but he also broke an NFL record, so you applaud him for that.
“You would hope that he can grow exponentially (in year two) and by year three he is what we all thought he’d be.”
The most important part for Mayfield going forward is to continue to grow his game. He can't just be satisfied with how the first year went.
