The Washington Wizards have held their small forward Otto Porter Jr. in high regard. Despite having two star players in John Wall and Bradley Beal, Porter has been the one cog to allow them to flourish — making him one player the Wizards simply refuse to let go.

Per Candace Buckner of The Washington Post:

“The Wizards value Porter, without a doubt. Though the organization did not extend a deal to him when he was a restricted free agent last summer and decided to keep Porter by matching the Brooklyn Nets' player-friendly offer sheet, whenever other teams call to inquire about the lanky swingman, the Wizards quickly end those conversations, according to several league sources.”

Otto Porter is an elevated role player, a sharpshooter with unique length that makes the ideal prototypical three-and-D wing player. The five-year man out of Georgetown had perhaps his best season in the league in 2017-18, posting a career-high 14.7 points while connecting on 50 percent of his shot attempts, including a rousing 44.1 percent from deep to go with his 1.5 steals per game.

Yet the Wizards are hoping he evolves into more than just a player to look out for, but an aggressive scorer that can put those unique skills to use and blossom to his full potential.

“I don’t think that being aggressive is against Otto’s nature,” said his former Georgetown coach, John Thompson III. “I think that sometimes the way that the world will want him to be aggressive is against his nature.”

The faith in Otto Porter is very much there for the Wizards, who are hoping he comes along as more assertive over time, already reaping the fruits of his talents with his steady improvements year after year.
