The Pacers and Nate McMillan have officially reached a deal on a contract extension per Pacers.com. The terms were not released, but it is a multi-year deal and the Pacers are thrilled to have McMillan locked up for the future. McMillan led Indiana to a 42-40 record in 2016-17 and, more surprisingly, led the team to a 48-34 record after the team traded away the centerpiece of the organization, Paul George.

McMillan was working on finalizing an extension this offseason and prior to this, he only had one guaranteed year left on his deal. McMillan and the Pacers must feel better about the future knowing they won't have to deal with any contract negotiations next offseason.

Per Pacers.com, McMillan said:

“I'm very appreciative of Kevin and Mr. Simon (team owner, Herb Simon) for this show of faith in what we are doing. Going back two years ago when I was hired, the trust Larry (Bird) and Mr. Simon had in myself and my staff meant a lot. Now with this extension, it's an affirmation of what we all – front office, coaches, players, staff – are trying to accomplish.”

The new front office's faith in their head coach is a ringing endorsement. McMillan was brought in by Larry Bird, but the new regime still believes in his choice at head coach. Per Pacers.com, Indiana's president of basketball operations, Kevin Pritchard said:

“I'm really proud of what Nate and our coaching staff have done. Nate is very deserving of this extension. We have a wonderful culture and he has been a big part of implementing that culture. He's a dedicated leader, a very good coach and we're lucky to have him here with the Pacers.”

Indiana is in a good place in a weak Eastern Conference with young talent and a star like Victor Oladipo. Not to mention, they have a great head coach leading the way.
