Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner plans to participate in the upcoming USA Basketball camp. If successful, he will make the United States’ FIBA World Cup roster.

Turner told The Athletic’s Scott Agness he’s excited about the opportunity to represent his country.

Turner plans to participate in training camp with USA Basketball, a source told The Athletic, as the team prepares for the FIBA World Cup. The entire camp roster has not been announced.

‘There’s a sense of pride that comes with that in representing your country and doing what you love,’ Turner said last fall. ‘It’s pretty incredible.’

Myles Turner wants to sip from the Cup. The 18th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in China. It will run from August 31 until September 15. Thirty-two teams will participate. The United States is in Group E along with Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Japan. Those four teams will play in Shanghai, per FIBA’s official website.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup will also act as a qualifying tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, per the same source.

For the first time, the FIBA Basketball World Cup will qualify seven teams directly for the following year’s Olympic Games. As such, the top-ranked team from Africa, Asia, and Oceania, respectively, and top ranked two teams each from the Americas and Europe at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will all qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The 16 next best teams at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will each be granted a place in one of the four FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2020, where they will have another chance to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Expect Myles Turner to become one of Team USA’s pillars on defense in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
