The Florida Panthers managed to further improve the roster at the NHL trade deadline, with their biggest move coming in the form of a trade for Philadelphia Flyers legend Claude Giroux. Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov was discussing the Giroux acquisition with the media on Tuesday and had a surprisingly funny tidbit about one of the unexpected benefits of bringing the Flyers' icon to town. Via Jameson Olive, Barkov revealed that he'd gained more than 5,000 followers on social media as a result of the Giroux trade, going on to thank his new teammate.

Loyal Flyers fans are eager to see who Giroux will be sharing a first-line with in Florida, so they took to social media and began following Barkov. They'll be pleased to see that Giroux should be racking up points for the Panthers, as he'll regularly be sharing the ice with some of the game's best scorers and passers.

The Panthers captain currently has around 124,000 Instagram followers, but that number could stand to rise as more Giroux fans become familiar with his name. Most hockey fans should already know Barkov, however. He's enjoying a tremendous season in Florida, having scored 26 goals and assisted 36 for a total of 62 points across 49 games. His 62 points are the most he's had across the past three seasons, and he ranks second on the team, trailing only Jonathan Huberdeau's egregious 86-point tally.

The 26-year-old should be looking forward to playing with someone as experienced as Giroux, who had just played in his 1,000th game as a member of the Flyers. He'll now get a shot to win a Stanley Cup Finals with the Panthers, and he's apparently also helping boost his new teammates' social media following.
