Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots have already decided on their quarterback situation, choosing Mac Jones over Cam Newton. On Monday morning, though, Belichick spoke about a different quarterback in the AFC North, Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa, in the most Belichick-ian of ways.

It would not surprise us if Belichick keeps a 1000-page scouting report on Tagovailoa, but he's just obviously not in the mood to talk in length about the Dolphins' youngster. But Belichick rarely talks in a lengthy manner about anything. This is a man who, while celebrating a Super Bowl win, was already thinking about going back to practice. There are no shortcuts for Belichick — only terse, concise remarks.

The Patriots are preparing for Tagovailoa and the Dolphins for a Week 1 matchup this coming Sunday. This game is intriguing for a lot of reasons, including the fact that the contest will be pitting against each other two former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterbacks, who both brought national titles to Tuscaloosa.

This isn't going to be the first time that the Patriots' defense will get a close look at Tagovailoa. In Week 15 of the 2020 NFL season, he started against the Patriots in a 22-12 win at home. For what it's worth, Tagovailoa had 145 passing yards and an interception on 20-for-26 completions in that contest.
