Cam Newton just dropped a bombshell of a Funky Friday episode that served as a tell-all for his unceremonious exit from the New England Patriots. But beyond the Twitter buzz he generated, there reportedly hasn't been as much interest in his actual football services.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, there have been zero teams giving any real consideration to signing Cam Newton at this point in time. This despite the fact that the former NFL MVP remains very vocal about wanting another opportunity.

“His best play will be to wait for an injury,” said Florio on the former Patriots QB. “Even then, the question is whether the team will bring in Newton or rely on the next man up.”

Cam Newton himself admitted that a big reason why the Patriots didn't keep him around was because of his “aura”. The man is larger than life. And while that's awesome when you're the franchise QB winning league MVPs, it doesn't exactly fit the bill of an ideal backup for a rookie signal-caller in Mac Jones.

Via Ben Volin of The Boston Globe:

“Can we be honest? The reason why they released me is because indirectly I was going to be a distraction, without being the starter. Just my aura. That’s my gift and my curse,” said Newton on Patriots dismissal.

Would he have accepted a role as Mac's backup? “I would’ve said absolutely.”

It's a safe bet that Cam Newton still has a few more snaps in him in the NFL. But after his failed stint on a Patriots team that had a huge Tom Brady-shaped hole at QB when he arrived, his next opportunity will definitely be harder to come by.
