New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is often seen working out with trash cans as part of his preparations for the upcoming NFL season. He recently revealed the reason behind his unorthodox training regimen and claimed that he is just using the trash cans to give him more motivation, per Bleacher Report.

The 2015 NFL MVP received a ton of criticism in his debut campaign with the Patriots last season. The New England faithful immediately set high expectations on him to fill in the shoes left by longtime gunslinger Tom Brady.

However, things didn't go as expected as he was only limited to 2,657 passing yards on 242 completions to go with eight touchdowns through 15 games. In addition, the lack of weapons on the Patriots roster eventually made life harder for Newton. After coming out with a string of dismal performances, Bill Belichick's squad only settled for a 7-9 record to nab the third spot in the AFC East.

Amid all the outside noise, Newton has become even more motivated to prove his haters wrong in the upcoming season. The Patriots also extended a hand to his comeback bid as they made a ton of acquisitions in the offseason in order to fill their roster with more reliable weapons that can perform on the field.

With a fresh one-year contract, the 31-year-old quarterback will have another shot to prove his worth to his haters next season. Cam Newton is hoping that his newfound training scheme will fuel him to produce better performances and attain greater success in 2021.
