The New England Patriots face some uncertainty at the wide receiver position. With Julian Edelman out for the first four weeks of the season, there will be a good number of targets up for grabs for the remaining receivers on the team.

Newcomer Cordarrelle Patterson is one such receiver included in that group, and the wideout more renowned for his ability on special teams has been making his presence felt during Patriots practice with his receiving skills.

Per Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal:

During training camp, the new Patriots receiver has grown accustomed to making difficult catches look easy. For someone known as an outstanding kickoff returner, Patterson is turning heads on the receiving end.

The Patriots brought in Patterson this offseason after he had a disappointing season with the Oakland Raiders in 2017. He recorded a mere 31 catches for 309 receiving yards and no touchdowns.

Patterson has flashed some potential with his impressive size and athleticism through his first five years in the league, but he has been unable to firmly establish himself as a reliable receiver. His career high is 52 catches (in 2016) and he has never topped 500 yards receiving.

But Patriots head coach Bill Belichick believes he can make Patterson the player he should be, and based on Patterson’s camp performances, that might actually be coming to fruition.

It would certainly be a big boost to the Pats if they can get some sort of production from Patterson while Edelman serves his suspension. The other receivers on the Pats roster — Kenny Britt, Phillip Dorsett, rookie Braxton Berrios, and even newly-signed veteran Eric Decker — also have their share of question marks.
