After the New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl earlier in the month, Patriots safety Devin McCourty wasn't sure what his future held.

Well, he has made it official: he is returning in 2019.

Prior to the Super Bowl, McCourty said that he wasn't sure if anything could top winning a championship alongside of his brother, Jason McCourty, who is also a defensive back for New England.

Now that Devin is able to see things a little more clearly, he said that he doesn't just play football to win Super Bowls, specifying that he simply loves playing the game.

McCourty is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he finished with 82 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, a couple of fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Rutgers University, was originally selected by the Patriots in the first round (27th pick overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He began his NFL career as a cornerback, making the Pro Bowl in his first season after totaling 73 tackles, a sack, seven picks, a pair of forced fumbles and 17 passes defended.

McCourty then transitioned to safety in 2013 and has been playing at that position ever since, making another trip to Honolulu in 2016 as a result of tallying 78 stops, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The Nyack, N.Y. native has played his entire nine-year career in New England and has only missed five games throughout his NFL tenure. He hasn't missed a game since 2015.
