Josh Gordon was unable to make his New England Patriots debut last week against the Detroit Lions. However, the recently-acquired wide receiver could finally do so this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

The Patriots, who traded for Josh Gordon (hamstring) a week ago, may see the debut of their talented WR today vs the Dolphins. There is a “good chance” he plays today, source said, provided a pre-game workout goes well and Bill Belichick decides he’s ready.

Gordon is still working his way back from a hamstring injury which proved to be the final straw for the Browns, who quickly decided to part ways with the talented but troubled receiver.

The Patriots offense sans Gordon struggled mightily against the Lions. Tom Brady went just 14 of 26 for 133 yards as they mustered just 209 yards of total offense. Chris Hogan and Cordarrelle Patterson combined for the four catches made by Patriots wide receivers.

They are now set to face an impressive Dolphins pass defense which has come up with at least two interceptions in their first three games this season.

At his best, Gordon has proven he can be one of the best receivers in the league. Unfortunately, he has not come close to rediscovering the form that saw him become an All-Pro in 2013 due to several factors. But the Patriots were willing to take the chance that he finally comes good in New England.

Even if Gordon does play against the Dolphins, it remains to be seen whether he will play a significant part in the Patriots offense after just a couple weeks on the team. Regardless, the Patriots will need someone on the roster to deliver a spark and jumpstart their struggling offense.
