New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has started to find his footing in the offense over the last few weeks. Unfortunately, he suffered a bit of a setback that will cost him some playing time against the Buffalo Bills.

Gordon was expected to resume his role as the budding top wideout in New England. However, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, he could potentially miss the entire first quarter due to tardiness:

Sources: The Patriots are disciplining WR Josh Gordon during tonight’s game vs. the Bills because of tardiness. He’s expected to be kept off the field for several series — about a quarter — as they continue to work with & manage him. It’ll be regular playing time after that.

The update is certainly not an encouraging one just ahead of game-time. However, it is clear that the Patriots are keeping a short leash on any of Gordon's shortcomings. He is certainly no stranger to disciplinary action, whether it be from the NFL or his former team in the Cleveland Browns.

As a result, both teams and the league have taken precautions to ensure he can walk a straight line. The fact that the Patriots have seemingly kicked it up a notch should come as no surprise considering they are notorious for being perhaps the most strict team in the NFL.

The update is unfortunate considering how well Gordon has played since arriving in New England. He is coming off his best performance yet after hauling in four receptions for 100 yards against the Chicago Bears last week. He may have a tough time building on that momentum with the late start to the game.
