Former. New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is spending his retirement looking to cash in on his old team's success. He placed a $100,000 bet on the Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are led by his friend Tom Brady, making the Super Bowl.

Edelman told his parents about his bet. They couldn't believe he made such an expensive bet.

Edelman's parents are right to be incredulous. Although the bet is a clear showing of his loyalty to both Brady and New England, it doesn't have a great chance of hitting.

The Buccaneers have a strong chance at making the Super Bowl. Brady looks as good as he ever has and is leading a lethal offense while the Tampa Bay defense. Although the Bucs will be without some key offensive weapons, they have enough playmakers on both sides of the ball and will have the home-field advantage unless they face the Green Bay Packers.

The Patriots, meanwhile, don't look like Super Bowl material. They lost three of their last four games, one of which was to their Wild Card opponent, the Buffalo Bills. Mac Jones enjoyed a solid rookie campaign but he may not be ready to lead a team deep into the playoffs yet.

A Patriots-Buccaneers Super Bowl would be the ultimate game for the legacies of Brady and Bill Belichick. Edelman may not feel like picking a side if that were to happen. If it did, though, he'd have some extra winnings by his side as he watches the big game.

As the Buccaneers and Patriots embark on their respective playoff journeys, Edelman will cheer them on due to the loyalty he feels to both teams as well as his wallet.
