Julian Edelman was a cult figure in the northeast before the 2018 playoffs. After helping the New England Patriots to an unprecedented third Super Bowl win in five seasons, then, it's only natural that fans of he and his team would get even crazier.

During an appearance last week on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Edelman had his wonderfully bushy beard shaved off by Ellen herself. He left the barber's chair looking like a completely different person, someone 10 to 15 years younger who seems far more likely to be in the entertainment industry than the NFL. And now, one extra zany Patriots fan can capitalize on that metamorphosis, bringing Edelman's shorn beard home to include with his or her vast collection of New England sports memorabilia – for a price, that is.

DeGeneres put the beard shavings up for auction on Charitybuzz, a website that allows users to bid on items or experiences with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. The current highest bid on Edelman's hair is $2,100.

Fellow users will have until February 22nd to make their bids, when the auction is scheduled to end. All the proceeds from Edelman's auction will go the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, to which he and DeGeneres already donated $10,000 upon the initial shaving.

The MVP of Super Bowl 53, Edelman had 10 catches and 141 yards in the Patriots' 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. He proved just as instrumental to New England's success in the team's previous postseason games, combining for 16 catches, 147 yards, including multiple key third-down conversions.
