On Sunday, the New England Patriots routed the Carolina Panthers 24-6. It was a long game for Carolina and New England looked great for the most part. However, the victory has a dark cloud hanging above it, as it appears Mac Jones made a dirty play against Brian Burns.

During an interview on Monday, Mac Jones was asked about the incident. According to Mike Reiss, Jones claims he “thought (Burns) had the ball.”

This is an odd scenario, as Mac Jones likely didn't know where the ball is. Making sure a player goes down is the first thing to do in that situation. However, Jones appears to be twisting the ankle in an attempt to injure Brian Burns. It's an odd move to make, and not one we typically see on the football field. Regardless, the Patriots' young quarterback is going to stick to his guns.

The NFL is currently looking into the video footage of the incident. If they find anything out of the ordinary, the league plans to fine Mac Jones for his actions. We'll see what happens though, as the NFL ignored Harrison Smith choking CeeDee Lamb in Week 8.

Either way, we have video evidence of Jones making a dirty play on Brian Burns. The Patriots don't seem too worried about it, as it seems their starting quarterback won't miss any time. Hopefully, the league cracks down on things like this, as what Mac Jones did on Sunday is much worse than taunting. Keep an eye on this situation, as more news will surface in the coming week.
