In an effort to restock their depleted receiving corps, the New England Patriots have claimed second-year wide receivers Amara Darboh and Chad Hansen off of waivers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Darboh was a third-round pick by the Seahawks last year and caught eight passes for 71 yards while appearing in all 16 games. Meanwhile, Hansen was a fourth-round pick by the Jets and caught nine passes for 94 yards in 15 appearances as a rookie.

The Patriots’ once-deep receiving group has seen a host of departures recently. They released Jordan Matthews and Kenny Britt due to injury concerns. Veteran Eric Decker retired just weeks after he was signed. And rookie Braxton Berrios was placed on injured reserve and will miss the entire season.

With Julian Edelman suspended for the first four regular-season games, Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson were the only wideouts who made the team’s 53-man roster. Obviously, that’s not a particularly inspiring group.

It seems highly unlikely that either Darboh or Hansen will make much of an impact for the Patriots even with their current lack of receiving talent. Nevertheless, they will at least add some more depth just in case they need it.

In the meantime, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will still have the likes of tight end Rob Gronkowski and running backs James White, Rex Burkhead, and possibly even rookie Sony Michel to call upon in the receiving game.
