We're in the middle of the re-signing period in the NFL as the free agency window opens on Wednesday, March 16. The New England Patriots have been incredibly busy after making moves with Mac Jones in mind. It'll be a tough season for this team next year, but as usual, Bill Belichick puts his team in a position to succeed.

According to Jim McBride, the Patriots have come to an agreement with Brian Hoyer to take on the backup quarterback duties. He's a true veteran of the sport who can help Mac Jones continue to develop. In addition to Hoyer, New England also brought back offensive lineman James Ferentz, as well as stand-out safety Devin McCourty.

Although the Patriots don't have the most impressive roster, it's hard to not list them as a playoff contender next season. Mac Jones flashed potential throughout his rookie year and should take another step in his development. If everything works out according to plan, we should see New England back on top of the league relatively soon.

Brian Hoyer has been in the league for quite some time, as he's been one of the most consistent backup quarterbacks in the league. Keeping him on the roster is detrimental to Mac Jones, as he'll have a veteran quarterback to listen to while he continues learning. The Patriots have yet again set themselves up nicely but will have a difficult journey to the postseason with the Buffalo Bills in charge of the AFC East.

Keep an eye on the Patriots, as the front office looks to build a powerhouse in the offseason.
