The New England Patriots have been surrounded by a little more drama than usual this NFL offseason. Much of it has been centered around superstar tight end Rob Gronkowski. The question of his potential retirement has yet to be answered. But we do know there is one thing he is up for committing to.

Dirt bikes. He is all in when it comes to riding dirt bikes.

Gronkowski was at a recent Supercross event being held at Foxborough when the press caught up with him. Rather than start with the question everyone wants to know (is he playing?) they took a soft approach. They asked what he’s been up to lately.

“I’ve been training for this dirt biking.”

Red flags likely went up in the minds of many since teams typically frown on players engaging in activities where they could get hurt. But here Gronkowski was decked out in Supercross gear looking like he was ready to hit the track.

When asked about the team’s voluntary workouts he responded with.

“No,” Gronkowski answered. “I’ve got dirt biking skills to work on.”

If he was serious, and it is hard to know for sure if he was or not, Bill Belichick can’t be happy with him. The team has done just fine without its superstar tight end before, but it is much nicer to have a guy like Gronkowski working for you.

Assuming he wasn’t joking, you have to wonder what has gotten into him. He’s towed the company line for years. Why break away now?
