The New England Patriots managed to add some serious star power to their receiving corps with the acquisition of Josh Gordon. Quarterback Tom Brady has since sounded off on New England's trade.

There is plenty of optimism surrounding their new addition. Brady said during an appearance on Westwood One Radio that it will be on Gordon to determine his role for the 2018 NFL season, via Ryan Hannable of WEEI:

“Well, we’ve had quite a few roster moves the first couple of weeks of the season with receiver,” Brady said. “I am going to do what I have done the last couple of weeks and just try and work with whoever is there, and see if they can come in and make an impact and make a role on this team. It is really up to the individual what kind of role they can carve out for themselves. That is kind of how I feel.

New England is hoping to emulate the same type of success they had with wide receiver Randy Moss did late in his career. However, Brady is not ready to set any expectations for Gordon.

“I am not making — I hate to make projections and expectations. That’s not fair and I have never met Josh personally, just like I hadn’t met some of the guys who have come in the last couple of weeks. We’ll see how it goes this week. Hopefully he can work hard, put the team first and end up helping us in any role he can find for himself on the team.”

There has been plenty of hype surrounding Gordon's arrival, however, it is clear that Brady is tempering his expectations for now. There is good reason for him to do so considering the former's track record off the field. That said, there is still no denying that Gordon has the ceiling of an elite wideout.

Unfortunately, he has yet to prove so after a slow start to the season. He has made one catch for 17 yards in the season opener before the Cleveland Browns finally decided to part ways after reports surfaced about a hamstring issue. However, it seems to have no effect on his status for Week 3.

It is no secret that the Patriots have been desperately trying to fortify their receiving corps. Brady still has yet to find his safety net outside of tight end Rob Gronkowski and it showed during their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. If Gordon can get himself up to speed with the offense, it very well could pay huge dividends for New England down the road.
