With Brian Flores looking primed to take the Miami Dolphins' head-coaching job after the season is over, the New England Patriots will need a replacement at defensive coordinator.

One name that has surfaced is now-former Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

This is not the first time the Patriots have expressed interest in Schiano.

As a matter of fact, last February, Schiano looked like he was going to join New England as defensive coordinator before ultimately deciding to return to Ohio State.

Schiano has limited NFL experience. He served as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two years, going 11-21 in 2012 and 2013.

The 52-year-old earned his first NFL coaching job all the way back in 1996, when he served as a defensive assistant for the Chicago Bears for two years before becoming their defensive backs coach for one season in 1998.

Schiano is most known for his 11-year stint as the head coach of Rutgers, where he went 68-67 and went 5-1 in bowl games. He registered one AP top 25 finish with the Scarlet Knights, leading the school to a No. 12 ranking back in 2006.

His success in his latter years at Rutgers was what ended up landing him the Buccaneers head-coaching job.

After being fired from Tampa Bay in 2013, Schiano was out of football for two years and was then named Ohio State's defensive coordinator, where he served from 2016 through the end of this season. He was fired from his post last week.

The Patriots will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs on Sunday.
