Rob Gronkowski didn’t waste much time in Super Bowl 53 matchup between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams before making history. According to ESPN Stats & Info, Gronkowski is now the solo leader for most receptions by a tight end in Super Bowl history.

Rob Gronkowski now has 18 career catches in the Super Bowl. That breaks a tie with Jay Novacek for the most catches by a TE in Super Bowl history.

Gronkowski’s 2018 season has been an interesting one. He’s been bugged by injuries that limited him to appear in just 13 games, failing for the seventh season in a row that he wasn’t able to play in all 16 regular-season contests on the schedule.

Nevertheless, Gronkowski is a huge factor for the Patriots when he’s healthy and on the field, which he showed right away in Super Bowl 53, albeit what’s looking like a low-scoring affair in Atlanta.

As of this writing, Gronkowski has 36 receiving yards on three catches and three targets. He and Julian Edelman are the old reliable targets for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and both have been delivering in the first half in terms of hauling down passes.

Gronkowski finished the 2018 regular season with 682 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 47 receptions.
