The New York Jets may very well have a bright future. Rising sophomore quarterback Sam Darnold, while hardly spectacular, still showed flashes of immense promise as a rookie, and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, has the makings of a multi-year all-pro. With organizational building blocks on both sides of the ball and several other young talents on the roster, first-year coach Adam Gase has reason to be optimistic about his new team's prospects going forward.

But almost none of that hope stems from New York's recent track record of success, or more accurately, lack thereof. The Jets have just one winning season in the last eight years, and haven't made the playoffs since 2010 – the third-longest drought in the league.

Heading to a Met Gala afterparty with Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman couldn't help himself from reminding one loudmouth Jets fan of his favorite team's futility. When a heckler shouted at Barkley because the reigning Rookie of the Year plays for the Jets' cross-town rivals, Edelman shut the fan down in perfectly succinct, deadpan fashion.

“I'm a Jets fan, too,” he said matter of factly, per TMZ. “Every time we play we win.”

Burn. Julian Edelman wasn't lying, either. New England is 6-0 against New York over the past three seasons, with its last loss coming on December 27th, 2015 in overtime at the Meadowlands. Will Gase, Darnold, and Williams be able to break that losing streak as early as 2019? Maybe, but it's certainly safe to say Edelman and the Patriots have the Jets number.
