Ever since the trade deadline passed, people have wondered how long the New Orleans Pelicans would play Anthony Davis. These questions ramped up after Davis suffered an injury that forced him out of a game right before the All-Star break. It appears his days of playing for the Pelicans aren't over yet:

This will more than likely be greeted with a mixed reaction from the fans. No one wants to see a team not put out its best product, especially when that best product features one of the best players in basketball.

At the same time, though, playing Anthony Davis does absolutely nothing for the Pelicans. They're already extremely long shots for the playoffs, so he's not going to help much on that front. He'll only take away time from players who might actually be on the roster next season, and he might help the Pelicans win a few extra games. Those few extra wins could give the Pelicans a worse spot in the lottery, giving them a lower draft pick.

There's also concern about Davis suffering a major injury and potentially lowering his value on the trade market. At this point, the Pelicans would prefer to protect their trade asset and just sit him, but the NBA doesn't want to see that happen.

It remains to be seen if New Orleans will go against the league's wishes and just bench Davis. The superstar wants to play, but the Pelicans might ultimately decide it's not worth it and just sit him, regardless of potential punishment.

For now, all we know is Davis is playing Friday night against the Indiana Pacers.
