The New Orleans Pelicans came away with a victory on Wednesday night against the Chicago Bulls, 123-108. This win wasn't without incident, though, with starting forward Brandon Ingram suffering a hand injury during the contest.

Following the matchup, the 22-year-old underwent some tests on his injured right pinky finger, which according to multiple sources, came out negative.

The Pelicans may have dodged a bullet here, with Brandon Ingram not expected to miss time because of this minor injury. Then again, New Orleans could always play it safe with their prized youngster and have him sit out a game or two for his finger to fully heal.

Ingram was outstanding on Wednesday, logging a team-high 29 points (7-of-19 form the field, 11-of-12 from the line), four 3-pointers, eight rebounds, a career-high 11 assists, and two blocks in 38 minutes of action. Starting point guard Jrue Holiday (bruised left elbow) was out for this one, which resulted in Ingram being tasked with more playmaking duties than usual.

Since his summer move from the Los Angeles Lakers, Ingram has been nothing short of tremendous for the Pelicans. He has embraced the role of the team's number one option on offense, and is currently averaging 25.3 points (on 47.7 percent shooting), 6.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks, while also connecting on 2.4 3-pointers per contest on a 40.2-percent clip.

Currently, the Pelicans possess the second-worst record in the Western Conference at 13-25. Nonetheless, they are just four games outside the playoffs picture right now, and at this point, anything can still happen. The imminent arrival of first overall pick Zion Williamson should provide New Orleans with a much-needed boost, and if everything goes according to plan, this team could be fighting for a postseason slot come March.
