Someone other than Anthony Davis or DeMarcus Cousins led the New Orleans Pelicans in scoring for a change. Unfortunately, Jrue Holiday’s season-high 34 points and 11 assists weren’t enough to give the Pelicans the win against the Toronto Raptors.

Cousins was particularly disappointed that they couldn’t give Holiday the help his great play deserved.

Davis surprisingly had the quietest game he’s had this season as he went under 20 points and 10 rebounds for the first time in a game he finished. Cousins had a more typical line of 20 points and 15 rebounds, but was just 8-of-24 from the field.

While the Pelicans can expect better production from their two stars in the future, it’s more important for them to receive more of those types of performances from Holiday.

After signing a five-year, $126 million contract this summer, Holiday has had a somewhat disappointing start to the season. Apart from a couple of big games, he has generally been unable to be and reliable third option behind Boogie and the Brow.

Holiday is the only other player on the Pelicans roster apart from the two big men who has the talent to perform at a consistently high level. The team will need more of those high-caliber performances from him moving forward if they want to be serious contenders for a playoff spot.
