New Orleans Pelicans owner Gayle Benson has denied a report that she won't trade Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer if the franchise can't convince him to change his mind on his trade request.

Friday morning, a report surfaced claiming Benson said she wouldn't trade Davis to the Lakers “over my dead body.” Fletcher Mackel of NBC NOLA reached out to Benson, and she called the report “totally absurd and completely untrue.”

The Lakers tried hard to acquire Davis at the February trade deadline, but the Pelicans didn't want to do business with the Purple and Gold.

Los Angeles has a pretty nice trade package it could offer the Pelicans for Davis. The Lakers could offer Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and perhaps even more. It's widely assumed in league circles that Davis prefers to play for the Lakers and with LeBron James.

However, the Pelicans have their options this summer. They will likely hear from the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics as well. Assuming David Griffin can't change Davis' stance on wanting to be traded despite the team winning the draft lottery, the Pelicans are going to get some really good offers this summer for Davis.
