The recent news of Anthony Davis seeking his way out from the New Orleans Pelicans has shocked teams across the league with only 11 days before the Feb. 7 trade deadline. Agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports said his client decided to so in hopes of transparency with the franchise.

“Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that's the reason for informing them of this decision now. That's in the best interests of both Anthony's and the organization's future,” Paul told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Giving the Pelicans less than two weeks to get a trade done puts the franchise in a difficult position, considering what's at stake and the blockbuster nature of a potential deal.

Asked if New Orleans could be willing to move Davis by the deadline, Paul expressed ignorance in the matter, claiming his client only tried to do what's best for the place he called home for the last six-plus seasons.

“They haven't said much, but we wanted to do the right thing to let them know by the deadline so they could do what's best for the organization going forward,” Paul told Marc Stein of The New York Times.

The timing is fishily constricting, something that gives the Los Angeles Lakers a huge advantage in the Anthony Davis sweepstakes, considering the Boston Celtics can't trade for Davis until the offseason, due to Kyrie Irving's “Rose Rule” permutations.

If the Lakers can throw everything but the kitchen sink into this trade before the deadline, they could take the best player potentially available in the summer and snipe it right out of their historic arch-enemies by making use of the immense pressure the Pelicans have to get something in return for their franchise player.
