Zion Williamson affirmed his commitment to the New Orleans Pelicans by officially signing his extension on Wednesday, putting an end to a year filled with doubts and speculations about his future.

Speaking with reporters after the contract extension, Williamson opened up about the past season and how the questions about whether he'll stay or not has affected him. Per Will Guillory of The Athletic, Zion admitted it has been an “emotional rollercoaster” as people kept asking him and his family about his decision even when were in public.

Fortunately for the Pelicans, Williamson did not let all the negativity affect his focus on rehabbing his injured foot and working his way back to the NBA hardcourt.

For the most part of the 2021-22 season, the talk had been about how Zion Williamson has played his last minute for the Pelicans. There were several reports about his alleged disconnect with the franchise that were fueled by his absence, with many thinking he doesn't want to play for a small market team.

Not to mention that Williamson had been largely linked with the New York Knicks, especially after he spoke fondly of the franchise.

With a deal that ensures he'll be with the Pelicans for the long-term–with little control as well since it has no player option–fans and experts alike can now put their doubts aside. Williamson is in NOLA to stay, and he has his eyes on the biggest prize as he looks for a bounce-back campaign following an injury-riddle season.
