The New Orleans Pelicans infamously selected former Duke Blue Devils big man Zion Williamson with the No. 1 overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft.

With Williamson slated to break out in his second season atop the highest level in 2020-21, former Pelicans head coach Monty Williams is already praising and hyping up the burly forward in a big way.

With the 2019-20 campaign ultimately coming to an odd conclusion, the start to Zion Williamson's NBA career didn't get off on the right foot either as injury troubles hampered him early on. Even so, it was evident that Williamson belonged once he was finally able to step foot on the court.

Now presented with a clean bill of health and a full regular-season slate ahead, it wouldn't be tremendously surprising for the second-year superstar to live up to the hype stemming from Williams and others.

The Pelicans, thanks mostly to the presence of Zion Williamson, are an up-and-c0ming franchise that could very well make some noise toward the middle of the Western Conference standings in 2020-21. In addition to the phenom under the rim, new Pelicans head coach Stan Van Gundy also has the likes of forward Brandon Ingram, swingman Josh Hart, along with guards Lonzo Ball, Eric Bledsoe, and J.J. Redick — among others — at his disposal.

With an absolutely-loaded Western Conference featuring a slew of very talented teams, finishing the 2020-21 regular season with a No. 6, No. 7, or No. 8 seed come playoff time would be quite the step in the right direction for the upstart Pelicans.
