Losers of five straight, the New Orleans Pelicans knew that Saturday night's matchup against the Phoenix Suns could be difficult, considering the Suns' recent success. Star center Anthony Davis decided to send a message and start the game in style.

On the Pelicans' first possession of the game, Davis handed the ball off to point guard Frank Jackson near the top of the key. Jackson lobbed the ball right back to Davis, who went up to complete the alley-oop slam.

Davis was in the middle of trade talks this season, as the struggling Pelicans considered moving their superstar center. A blockbuster deal seemed possible with the Los Angeles Lakers, but talks fell apart and Davis remained with New Orleans. With only one more guaranteed season on his contract (in addition to a 2020-21 player option), it seems very likely the Pelicans will move Anthony Davis this offseason.

The 26-year-old has spent his entire career with New Orleans since being drafted with the No. 1 pick in 2012. A six-time All-Star, Davis is averaging 26.5 points, 12.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists this season, shooting 51.5 percent.

Davis's dominance hasn't been enough to carry New Orleans. The Pelicans are well out of the playoff race at 30-41, 10.5 games behind the eighth-place Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference. Rather than worry about wins and losses, Pelicans fans should spend the rest of the season enjoying what might be their last few weeks with Anthony Davis.
