The New Orleans Pelicans faced off against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night, and rookie Jaxson Hayes of the Pels produced one of he best highlights of his young career by obliterating Cheik Diallo with a wild dunk:

As you can see, Hayes gets so much lift that he is basically looking down at the rim, and he simply throws the ball in from close-range rather than actually touching rim – usually the mark of extreme athleticism (think of famous examples from Blake Griffin or Derrick Jones Jr.).

This one was extra-special, as it took place during a furious Pelicans comeback in which they outscored the Suns 34 to 18 in the fourth quarter in order to force overtime.

Hayes is known for his brilliant finishing at the rim, as he shot a striking 72.8 percent from the field in his long collegiate season at Texas.
