Zion Williamson made his Summer League debut for the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, and he quickly made a statement.

In a highly anticipated matchup against the New York Knicks, Williamson made it clear that he's ready to take center stage. He immediately made his presence on the defensive end after stealing the ball from sophomore forward Kevin Knox, who fell down to the floor in the process.

Zion finished the play with a two-hand monster slam.

Here's a closer look to that exhilarating sequence:

Unfortunately, Williamson will not be able to finish the game as he suffered a knee injury late in the first half. The Pelicans said the issue is not serious, but they are taking extra precaution on their prized rookie.

Williamson, the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft, is expected to be the face of the Pelicans franchise, as they begin the post-Anthony Davis era.

The Pelicans will head into next season as a team in rebuild mode. With a young core that shows a lot of promise, the franchise is highly optimistic about their future. Now that they've seen a glimpse of what Zion can do, the team and the fans are pumped up for the 2019-20 season.
