Evgeni Malkin doesn't have a lot of time in the NHL left. He's played his entire career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and hopes to finish things out with the organization. But, there is a serious doubt in the Russian's mind that Pittsburgh actually wants him.

Via The Athletic:

A few hours before the NHL Draft on Thursday, Evgeni Malkin was at his South Florida home asking himself a question about his future with the only NHL team he’s known.

“Do they want me?” Malkin wondered in a text to The Athletic.

Malkin has dealt with a lot of injuries across the last couple of seasons,  which has evidently prevented the Penguins from handing him a new deal. But, Pittsburgh GM Ron Hextall continues to insist the franchise is looking to make some trades to open up cap space so it would be easier for them to extend Malkin, a legend of this team.

The veteran center clearly wants at least three years on his next deal and after the Penguins just re-signed Kris Letang on a six-year contract, Malkin will surely be hoping he can get the desired amount of seasons.

He's not the same player as past but Evgeni Malkin is still a tremendous second liner. We can't forget he's also a three-time Stanley Cup winner, two-time Art Ross Trophy winner, and three-time All-Star, among other accolades. It's hard to even imagine the Penguins without Crosby and Malkin. They're undoubtedly interested in keeping Malkin, but it's time to make him feel that way. Because right now, Malkin doesn't feel wanted and that's wrong.
