With the Tour's PGA Championship set to tee off in a little more than a week, golf fans are set for more excitement. That's not the only tournament on the schedule, as the rival association, the Saudi Super Golf League, has their first event, the LIV Golf Invitational, in London in June. Two players, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood, publicly requested access to participate in the tournament. However, the PGA Tour's stance on the upcoming event is a rude awakening for both the rival league and the likes of Garcia and Westwood. Golf Week of USA Today has the latest.

The PGA Tour has denied its members permission to play in the Saudi-funded golf tournament in London next month. The denials were sent to players who had sought permission late Tuesday afternoon.

Per USA Today, the PGA has denied its members permission to play in the LIV Invitational, the first of eight tournaments the Super Golf League was planning on rolling out starting next month.

The PGA Tour was originally expected to provide waivers for players to obtain, which would then grant them access to play in the event. Garcia and Westwood were among those who requested waivers.

While it might not be a PGA ban, it's clear that the Tour isn't going to allow its players to defect over to the Super Golf League without a fight.
