Detroit Pistons forward Blake Griffin spent the first seven season in the NBA playing for the Los Angeles Clippers. In L.A, Griffin won Rookie of the Year and made five All-Star appearances.

Since heading to Detroit, he has only been an All-Star once. Former NBA player Channing Frye brought up the possibility of Griffin returning to the West Coast this season:

To answer Frye's question, Griffin returning to the Western Conference is not likely, but not crazy either.

The athletic big man is currently on a contract that will pay him just under $110 million dollars over the next three seasons. This is a pretty hefty contract for a team to pick up unless they think acquiring Griffin will make them an immediate contender.

One factor working towards the possibility of a Griffin trade is the fact that the Detroit Pistons are simply not a very good basketball team at the moment. The team has shown that a core of Griffin, Reggie Jackson, and Andre Drummond is not enough to be a serious threat.

While the team did acquire Derrick Rose and Markieff Morris this offseason, few pundits have the Pistons even making the playoffs this year.

It might be an ideal time for Detroit to unload Griffin's contract to a fringe contender and start the rebuild a little early.
