Skill-based, team-focused, competitive 3v3 first-person shooter Project Xandata gets the backing of Epic Games.

Built using the Unreal Engine, Project Xandata launched on Steam Early Access in March 2022. The game features a high-impact 3v3 first-person shooter arena with three different Agents, four game modes, five maps, an Unrestricted Weapon & Perk System, and the MagiTech System.

Now, with its use of Epic's Unreal Engine, the game's developers, Secret 6, received the Epic MegaGrants to help them develop the game even further. Launched in 2019, the Epic MegaGrants is a $100 million program designed by Epic Games to support game developers, animators, enterprise professionals, creators, students, and educators in creating amazing things with Unreal Engine or enhancing open-source capabilities for the 3D graphics community.

“Unreal Engine was a key part in bringing Project Xandata to life. We don’t think anything out there matches Unreal when it comes to building first-person shooters,” says Secret 6 Technical Director and Project Xandata Creator Gene Gacho.

The game currently holds a “Mixed” rating on Steam with 64% of the 99 users who reviewed the game recommending it. Most of the reviews share their enjoyment of the game but lament how it's currently hard to find matches, given the game's low player count recently. Hopefully, with the grant, Secret 6 can put the game back under the limelight so that it gets the attention it deserves. The game offers tons of fun if only it could maintain its player count – because waiting in long queues is much less fun.

Project Xandata is currently available exclusively on PC through Steam. It is unknown whether or not the Epic MegaGrants will make them transition the game to the Epic Games Store. That by itself isn't a requirement or a pre-requisite for receiving the grant, but one would wonder since Fall Guys has recently just made the jump as well.
