QuakeCon is set to begin next week on August 19, and leaks suggest that id Software and Machine Games might announce a “revitalized edition” of Quake. The leak was first reported by Xbox Era. It comes from a “Let's talk Quake” event on the official event calendar from August 12 (accessed through web.archive). The details read as follows:

Quake is back, in this special stream John Linneman from Digital Foundry talks to Jeff Gustafsson of Machine Games about the title's iconic legacy and what it meant to both of them. The pair will also discuss the additional content Machine Games have contributed to this revitalized edition.”

However, the details on this card have since been removed. This suggests that these details weren't meant to be public before the event. We can assume that the full reveal of this “revitalized edition,” will happen at QuakeCon. As of now, we still don't know whether it will be a remaster or a full remake. Games industry leaker Nick Baker has also been talking about something new coming up for the Quake franchise. You can view one of his tweets on the matter below:

This year also marks Quake‘s 25th anniversary, as the game originally released in June 1996. This makes it a perfect time to celebrate the game's legacy. If the details in the leak turn out to be true, then Machine Games will be in charge of this new edition. They have worked on Quake before. Back in the game's 20th anniversary in 2016, they created a new episode for the game. We'll all have to tune in to find out whether or not this “revitalized edition” will show up during QuakeCon.
