The NFL season is set to kick off in a few months. On paper, there are several formidable combinations in NFL backfields. Let's break down which teams have the best of the best.

Honorable Mention- Cleveland Browns

Kareem Hunt is suspended for the first eight games of the NFL season, which is why the Browns are only an honorable mention on the list. To start the season the Browns have Duke Johnson and Nick Chubb as the one-two punch.

Chubb was a slow starter last year but finished the season rushing for 996 yards and eight touchdowns and is ready for a huge second year.

Hunt has his off-field problems, but there is no doubt he is an elite talent when he steps on the gridiron. In 2017 as a rookie Hunt rushed for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns. If he can stay out of trouble, this is an elite backfield when he gets back from suspension.

3. Los Angeles Rams

A lot of people probably won't agree with this selection, but once the season is over I think I will be proven right. Todd Gurley is dealing with knee problems that could affect the rest of his career, but this is an elite running back who should play with less pressure in 2019.

The Rams drafted Memphis Tigers back Darrell Henderson in the third round. He was a standout in college. Last year Henderson rushed for 1,909 yards and 22 touchdowns.

He should get a lot of run in this offense; that will help Todd Gurley and his knees and provide quite a 1-2 punch for last season's NFL runner-up.

2. New Orleans Saints

Alvin Kamara is the best running back in the NFL based on last season's performance and health. Even though the Saints lost Mark Ingram, I still think they have an excellent combination.

Latavius Murray rushed for 578 yards and six touchdowns last year for the Vikings. He is a big, bruising back who should fit nicely as Ingram's replacement.

A lot more pressure might be on Kamara's shoulders, but I still think he will rise to the occasion and help make this the second-best backfield in football.

1. New England Patriots

Every year it seems the Patriots use about five different running backs and all of them thrive. It probably won't be very different this year, but they do have Sony Michel, whom they can depend on as a true number one back.

Last season Michel ran for 931 yards and six touchdowns; once the playoffs rolled around he was leaned on heavily.

They still have James White as a change-of-pace back who catches a ton of passes. Last year he hauled in 87 passes for 751 yards and seven touchdowns.

The team also has Rex Burkhead. The Pats drafted Alabama running back Damien Harris in the third round, whom they will also try to get involved. All the backs should be fresh and I would expect all of them to play a good amount in 2019. The Patriots know how to use their various backfield components so well that they maximize what they have. This is an important detail to consider.
