After the Toronto Raptors won Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers on an epic game-winning shot by Kawhi Leonard, Raptors center Marc Gasol went up to Sixers star Joel Embiid and consoled him.

Embiid was heartbroken and began to cry. His team just lost in the most painful fashion. That's when Gasol hugged Embiid and showed a great amount of empathy. The Raptors big man was applauded for his sportsmanship and spoke about his act of kindness with reporters on Wednesday.

“I just told him how I felt,” Gasol said, via Eric Koreen of The Athletic. “I care about him. As a big man, I understand what he comes from. We (used to) share the same agent. Before he even got to the NBA, he was living in his place. I heard a lot of stories about Joel growing up. I’ve always been a big fan of him and his personality. It’s between me and him.

“Sadly in sports, you’re gonna be on the losing side more than the winning side. It’s just the way professional sports work. You lose more than you win. Sadly, but it’s true.”

Gasol has always been a consummate professional and he showed that once again after Game 7 ended.

The Raptors take on the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Game 1 is on Wednesday in Milwaukee. Gasol is averaging 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in the 2019 playoffs for Toronto.
