Reds first baseman Joey Votto was hit in the head by a Tyler Anderson wild offering on Friday night in the Dodgers 3-1 victory over Cincinnati. Votto immeditaely stood up after getting plunked and started walking towards first base following the hit by pitch. However, he exchanged words with Anderson on his way to first which led to some players coming out of the dugouts in case a brawl was to ensue.

But things calmed down after Votto reached first base. However, Joey Votto turned to social media to hilariously “explain” what was said between him and Tyler Anderson during his walk towards first base.

“He was like, what’s your name? And I was like, what? He was like, WHAT IS YOUR NAME? I was like, Tony. So I says, WHAT’S YOUR NAME? He goes, Ezekiel. Then something about a fire. I don’t remember—I got hit in the head.”

Hmm, that certainly seems accurate, doesn't it?

In all seriousness, Joey Votto tends to keep things light-hearted and this “explanation” accomplished just that.

Anderson took a more serious stab at discussing what was said between him and the Reds All-Star first baseman.

“It was really hard to tell, it was kinda loud. But I threw a change-up right there that kind of slipped out, and I just asked him if he was okay, and I really couldn't understand what he was saying. I think he was upset. I understand it, if I was hitting and I got hit in the helmet I'd be upset too. I just tried telling him, ‘sorry dude it was a change-up, my bad.' I just wanted to make sure he was okay.”

The Reds and Dodgers play again on Saturday in LA at 7:05 PST. We will see if retaliation is in order or if both teams will let this slide.
