New Orleans Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins has been fined $25,000 by the NBA after trading F-bombs with a fan near the end of the season-opener against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, according to a report by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Arena security was needed during this altercation ending with the fan being ejected from the game.

Prior to last season, it was reported that Cousins had lost roughly $890,000 in career earnings due to fines and suspensions. This will only add to that mark, which may very well have surpassed $1 million now.

The NBA is strict about any player involvement with fans after the Malice at the Palace back in 2004. This was more than just the usual heckling most NBA players endure as Cousins took it to the next level by engaging the fan so much that he was needed to be removed from the arena.

Cousins and the Pelicans are 0-2 so far this season, suffering losses to the Grizzlies on the road opening night and then in their home opener last night when the Golden State Warriors came to town.

Cousins has individually been good, putting up big numbers with 31.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 blocks per night. New Orleans will need more of the same if it hopes to make the playoffs this year.
