Carmelo Anthony could have played his last game in a Knicks uniform this past season.

According to a report by ESPN's Ian Begley, there is belief that many within the organization think the star forward will not play another game for the franchise.

The Knicks find themselves in a somewhat obscure situation coming into the 2017 NBA Draft. Considered to be a guard-heavy top of the draft, the Knicks' eighth pick could go right to addressing a need at point guard, given how unlikely it is for Derrick Rose to be back with the team for 2017-18.

But New York has expressed heavy interest in acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves veteran point man Ricky Rubio, which once again trots back to president Phil Jackson's undying obsession with running a triangle system.

The move would make plenty of sense, as it will prove of utmost difficulty to teach what's likely a college freshman the ins and outs of a very complex offensive system that most NBA players shy away from.

If Anthony is traded during this offseason, the Knicks would be able to amplify their $19 million cap and look for the three-and-D resources they've been known to scout after their early elimination from playoff contention.

The 6-foot-8 forward had a tumultuous season in the Big Apple, ranging from trade talks, to his passive-aggressive war with Jackson, which he handled as professionally as an athlete could have, given the circumstances.

Melo is now dealing with a separation from his wife LaLa Anthony and could try and make the rest of his career more than the living hell it's been the past couple of seasons.
