The New York Knicks have not been having a very good season, having massively underperformed to this point in the season. They entered the year with hopes that this would be the season they finally take a step forward, maybe advance in the playoffs. Well, they might not even make the playoffs.

Entering Wednesday, they 20-21 and a half game out of the final spot for the play-in tournament.

However, there has been one bright spot; the play of R.J. Barrett, albeit on an inconsistent basis.

On Wednesday, Barrett surpassed Knicks great Kristaps Porzingis as the youngest player in franchise history to score 30+ points in back to back games.

Barrett is only 21 years and six months old. He dropped 32 points in the win over the Mavs Wednesday night, snapping Dallas' six-game winning streak. That comes on the heels of his 31-point performance Monday night in a win over the San Antonio Spurs. Sadly, he was unable to break “The Unicorn's” franchise record with him playing. Porzingis is still on the league's health and safety protocols list.

Barrett is averaging just over 16 points and five rebounds per game for New York this season. His play has been very inconsistent though.

The Knicks are hoping to turn their season around. They have now won four of their last five games, improving to .500 on the year. There is a long way to go, as the NBA season is about halfway done. But New York is going to need more contributions like this from their young star.
