Rockets’ Austin Rivers admits ‘explicit’ trash talk with Clippers coach Doc Rivers took place this summer

Houston Rockets guard Austin Rivers admits he and his dad, Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, had some “explicit” trash talk this summer.

Austin says his dad was on Cloud 9 all offseason, and you can’t blame him. The Clippers signed Kawhi Leonard in free agency and traded for Paul George.

Austin says the Rockets will have to bring Doc down a little bit this upcoming season.

Games between the Rockets and Clippers will be fun to watch. James Harden and Russell Westbrook versus Kawhi and PG-13; it doesn’t get much better than that.

Austin Rivers re-signed with the Rockets this summer on a two-year deal worth $4.54 million. He reportedly turned down more lucrative offers to play elsewhere because he loved his time with Houston last season.

Austin appeared in 47 games with the Rockets in 2018-19 and averaged 8.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Both the Rockets and Clippers are legitimate title contenders. Houston is the only team in the NBA with two MVPs on its roster after acquiring Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Everyone in Houston is excited to watch Westbrook and Harden play together.

The Rockets will go as far as Harden and Westbrook can take them, but Houston will need Austin Rivers, Eric Gordon, PJ Tucker, Clint Capela and Gerald Green to have stellar seasons as well.
