Since Hurricane Harvey struck the city of Houston and the nearby areas extremely hard this past weekend, there has been a concerted financial effort by many in the sports world to help the rebuilding process.

According to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, Hall of Famer and former Houston Rocket Dikembe Mutombo has donated $50,000 to help out those affected by the natural disaster.

Despite only playing with the Rockets in the back end of his career, Mutombo has established a strong connection with the city of Houston that extends well off the court. This also falls in the line of work to which the 51-year-old has dedicated himself to, even during his playing days and more so after his 18-year career.

The contributions that Mutombo is making is one of many that have come from either current or former professional athletes as well as professional sports organizations. In short, there is a tremendous outpour of financial support to the situation with millions of dollars being either raised or sent over to help out the cause.

There is likely much more to come well beyond Mutombo's donation as the thousands affected by Hurricane Harvey have either had their homes lost or severely damaged in the process.
