Report: PJ Tucker, Rockets tabling extension talks until offseason

Rockets, PJ Tucker

PJ Tucker and the Houston Rockets have decided to table discussions about an extension until the offseason, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Tucker is making $8,349,039 this season.

PJ Tucker, an essential forward for these Rockets, has dealt with a stinger in his right shoulder since Jan. 11. He has the 2020-21 season remaining on a four-year contract he signed with Houston. And after discussing an extension up until the start of the season, the sides have decided to table discussions until the offseason, according to sources.

Tucker has appeared in 43 games this season for the Rockets. He’s averaging 7.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 45.1 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 79.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Rockets are 27-16 on the season. They are in sixth place in the Western Conference standings.

Tucker has been with the Rockets since 2017. He’s considered the heart and soul of the team and is currently playing through an injury. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has always been a big fan of Tucker, so expect the two sides to be able to agree to a new deal once the offseason begins.

With James Harden and Russell Westbrook leading the way, the Rockets have a chance to win the championship this season. Along with his stellar defense, Tucker will have to continue to knock down those corner 3s for the Rockets to be successful once the playoffs start.
