Brian Scalabrine recently talked about a trade rumor where Golden State Warriors All-Star Klay Thompson may possibly get traded to the Boston Celtics. He made the claim on his daily news show on Sirius XM NBA radio and it drew a lot of chatter.

Many questioned his source and Scalabrine later revealed that it came from an article he read online from “The Morning Ledger,” which originated from the site “Sportsrageous.” The two websites are known for coming up with news that have no basis and mostly generated purely from imagination.

When asked what drove him to talk about it on his show, the 38-year-old USC product defended himself and said he had to discuss a lot of trade rumors just to make sure he didn't have any dead air on his live radio show.

“I talk about trades all day. DeMarcus Cousins to the Clippers, the Lakers, whatever. Everyday. You [try to] fill 15 hours without talking about trades.”

“I talk about rumors every single day for three hours a day for five days a week from 7-10 every morning,” he said, “and you had that one in particular that blows up to this? I just find it shocking.”

Scalabrine also added that he reached out to GMs Danny Ainge and Bob Myers via a text message group and explained his side on why he had to talk about the “trade rumor”.

“Hey guys wanted to clarify with you two, read about trade rumors three days ago. People assume that because I talk to you guys and our relationship [that there is validity]. I just talked about the trade from a basketball standpoint. Sorry that I created this situation for both of you guys. I talk about rumors every day. This one seemed to catch fire for obvious reasons.”

When asked what the two executives replied to him and how they felt, Scalabrine said this with a smile on his face:

“Were they mad? Well, anytime you have two GMs on a text, they’re going to destroy me. They absolutely destroyed me. Are they mad at me? I’m not sure. They could either be completely fun and sarcastic or they could be completely upset at me. I’m not sure yet.”
