New Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks has full confidence in his new star players, John Wall and Bradley Beal.

The Vertical's Chris Mannix interviewed Brooks on Tuesday to speak about the duo, and he had high praise for his new guards:

“I think they could be the top two-way backcourt in basketball.”

Brooks referenced Wall and Beal’s ability to defend and score as the basis of his statement, calling Beal one of the “purest” shooters he has seen in the league.

Wall and Beal are only 25 and 23, respectively, so they are still a young core not yet in their prime.

Brooks also mentioned what he thinks is the key to the Wizards' success in the future:

“If we can stay healthy and keep improving, I think we have a good chance to be one of the best teams in the East.”

Health has been a problem, especially for Beal.

In all of his youthfulness, Beal has missed almost a full regular season's worth of games, 81 so far, in his first four years in the league. He will likely need his minutes limited throughout his career.

His health bears extra importance for the Wizards since they signed Beal to a max contract worth $128 million over five years.

Wall is also not a great jump shooter, but has elite speed as well as the ability to get to the rim and distribute to compensate for his lack of a shooting touch.

With an experienced coach like Brooks who also coached the Thunder to an NBA Finals, the Wizards have a leader they can look forward to helping their star duo achieve their potential.
