The Seattle Seahawks are in the midst of a pretty big roster overhaul. Many of the faces that have helped make the team a force in recent years have found new homes. The team is hoping one more familiar face, safety Earl Thomas, will find a new home.

But they are hoping they can get something for him in return. If the Seahawks can, they’d like to get a first and a third-round pick for the 28-year old safety.

Sound expensive? Well—he will be if anyone decides to pay the price. If the team is really in contact with several teams about Thomas like Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports has reported, then they just might get it.

But is he worth it?

He’ll be in the last year of a four-year, $40 million contract. When he signed it, he became the highest paid safety in the league (at that time). He’s due to make $8.5 million in 2018. For a player of his caliber, that isn’t bad.

Late last season, Earl Thomas caused a bit of a stir when he told Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett after a game that the Cowboys should come and get him if they can. Thomas is from Texas and played his college football at the University of Texas in Austin.

It’s not unusual for a player to want to play for his hometown team. While the Cowboys could certainly use him, it is doubtful they’d be willing to pay the price the Seahawks are asking for him.
